Compliance Certifications

UL & C-UL

To ensure consistent and continuing quality, many SCP bulk cables and accessory items are UL Listed and carry the UL and/or C-UL Mark. (The C-UL Mark is applied to products that have been evaluated to Canadian safety requirements.)

UL is a global independent safety science company with more than a century of expertise innovating safety solutions from the public adoption of electricity to new breakthroughs in sustainability, renewable energy and nanotechnology. Dedicated to promoting safe living and working environments, UL helps safeguard people, products and places in important ways, facilitating trade and providing peace of mind.

ETL

ETL is another Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) similar to UL. In some instances SCP chooses to use ETL as they can test and certify products faster than UL and ETL is usually more cost efficient. ETL tests to the same standards as UL and their certification has the same recognition by OHSA since they are both NRTLs.

In short, the ETL Listed Mark indicates that our product has been tested by a NRTL, found in compliance with accepted national and regulatory standards, and meets the minimal requirements required for sale or distribution. To our distributors and dealers, the ETL Mark is assurance that the SCP product is compliant with safety standards, having been tested and certified by a third-party organization.

RoHS

Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) restricts the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment in European Union markets. The directive bans equipment containing more than agreed levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, and polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl (PBDE) flame retardants.

REACH

The acronym “REACH” stands for the “Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals”. REACH is a European Union Regulation (No 1907/2006) which was entered into effect in June 2007. REACH is intended to improve the protection of human health and the environment through the identification and use of certain chemicals and chemical substances.

REACH requires suppliers to inform recipients if their products contain a Substance of Very High Concern (SVHC) in excess of 0.1% by weight. The compliance status of SCP’s products was confirmed based on the latest 209 substances as updated by ECHA on June 25, 2020.

CE

CE stands for Conformité Européenne, which is French for “European Conformity”. A product cannot legally be sold in the EU unless it has passed the tests to receive the CE marking. All SCP products sold in the European Community are in conformity with the applicable European Product Safety Directives.

HDBaseT

HDBaseT®etl SCP was the first cable manufacturer to obtain HDBaseT® recommended status. SCP worked with the HDBaseT organization to help establish the category cable testing and approval process for the HDBaseT standard. SCP’s HNCPRO™ for Cat5e and HNCPROPLUS+™ for Cat6 are the industry’s first cables independently tested and approved by HDBaseT. European Regulation

The European Regulation 1907/2006 on Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and restriction of Chemicals (REACH) entered into force on June 1, 2007. The goal of REACH is to ensure the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals.

SCP does not manufacture chemicals, preparations or articles that intentionally release substances under normal operating conditions and therefore do not fit within the scope of entities obligated to pre-register and register with REACH. Both our company and key suppliers are committed to fulfill our legal obligations under REACH and seek to uphold our role in the necessary communication network needed to support REACH compliance.

Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)

Under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive, when customers buy new electrical and electronic equipment in the European Union they are entitled to:

  • Send old equipment for recycling on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis (this varies depending on country).
